Creating Shabby Chic boxes w/ Stamperia Sleeping Beauty Rice Paper

Hello Crafty Friends! Jeanne here to share with you these cute , very feminine shabby chic boxes that I created this month. I was sent this collection from Stamperia called Sleeping Beauty which included these beautiful rice papers.

Starting with some paper mache boxes, which you can purchase at Michaels or Amazon. These are sold in a pack of 3 but I have no clue where I lost the small one but either way I went ahead and created these two boxes which I absolutely love.

Stamperia, FotoBella, Mixed Media boxes, Sleeping Beauty

How I began

I began by going over the lid and the bottom half of the paper Mache boxes with heavy white gesso from Prima Marketing Finnabair brand. I did this because I had originally painted them with pink acrylic paint but then never used them. Once they were dry, I went over these areas with Prima Marketing Finnabair Impasto paint in Snow White.

Adding the Stamperia Rice Papers

The next step that I did was cut out the circle & Rose images from the Stamperia Sleeping Beauty Rounds Pack and I also used the Stamperia Sleeping Beauty Gold Wallpaper . To decoupage the rice papers onto the boxes, I used Deco Art Napkin Decoupage Glue with a small paint brush and a little water just to thin out the glue just a little.

Adding the finishing touch

I then adhered some laces/ruffle polka dot trim with some adhesive. Next, I adhered a crown and bow bling piece using E6000 glue which is a very strong adhesive. Finally I added some Teeny Tiny Silver Rhinestones on the lid images. I did leave the inside of these boxes unfinished for now.

Well crafty friends, I do hope that I have inspired you even just a little! Till next time!

Patriotic Box Tutorial Featuring Carta Bella “God Bless America”

patriotic box

Hello again, crafty friends! There’s just so much to make with the beautiful “God Bless America” paper by Carta Bella that I want to share another tutorial with you! Today, I will be showing you how to make a cute storage box. This little storage box can hold a variety of things, but I am making mine to hold the banner I made in one of my other blog posts this month.

In order to make this box, you will need cardstock, such as this blue toned pack from My Minds Eye. The box is constructed out of three sheets of 12” x 12” cardstock. Then, we will be decorating the box with the 12” x 12” collection kit from Carta Bella. Because the Carta Bella paper is such a heavy weight, it will strengthen the box when we layer the paper to the base.

There are two ways to follow the tutorial. If you prefer to watch a video and craft along, check out the video below from my YouTube channel. However, if you prefer written instructions, read below.

Constructing the Box Base

First, cut the cardstock t0 9 1/2” x 12”. Score at 1/4” and 1 3/4” along all four sides. Then, cut out the small square in the four corners and the small rectangles on each side of the square. On the short edge, cut along the score line (at 1 3/4”) up to the horizontal score line. Next, fold on all score lines and add adhesive (wet glue or double sided tape) to the 1/4” sections and fold over. Starting with the short end, fold up to form a 90 degree angle with the bottom of the box. Then, add glue to the squares on the end of the long sides and adhere to the inside of the short sides. Repeat on the other side to form the base of the box.

Next, cut two pieces of cardstock to 2” x 6” and two pieces to 2” x 8 1/2”. Score all four pieces at 1/4” along one end on the 2” side. Then, add adhesive to the 1/4” section and fold on the score lines. These pieces may need to be trimmed slightly, but they should fit inside the box and extend 1/4” above the sides of the box. Add adhesive to the section below the 1/4” fold and adhere to the inside of the box. Finally, cut one piece of cardstock to 6” x 8 1/12” (trim slightly if needed) and glue to the base of the box.

Constructing the Lid

In order to construct the lid, cut a piece of cardstock to 8 1/8” x 10 5/8”. Then, score at 1/2” and 1” along all four sides. Similar to the box base, cut out the four corner squares and the squares to the sides of the corner squares. Then, cut the 1/2” score line on the short sides up to the horizontal score line. Next, add adhesive to the 1/2” sections on the long sides and fold up. Add glue to the square tabs and adhere to the inside of the short sides. Finally, add glue to the 1/2” sections on the short sides and fold over to form the box lid.

Adding Decorative Papers

To decorate the outside of the box, cut two pieces of design paper to 1 3/4” x 8 1/2” and two pieces to 1 3/4” x 6”. Then, score each piece at 1/4” along one side on the 1 3/4” side. Next, add adhesive to the 1/4” section and fold over on the score line. With the 1/4” fold at the top, glue the pieces to the box, hiding the folded section between the paper and box. For the inside of the box, cut two pieces of decorative paper to 1 5/8” x 8 1/2” and two pieces to 1 5/8” x 6”. Trim slightly if necessary, and glue to the inside of the box.

To decorate the lid, cut two pieces of decorative paper to 3/8” x 8 1/2” and two pieces to 3/8” x 6”. Adhere to the four sides of the lid. Then, cut one piece to 6” x 8 1/2” and glue to the top of the lid. Next, cut the same size pieces (trimmed slightly if needed) for the inside of the box lid. Adhere to the inside.

Embellishing the Box

For this next step, decide on which elements you want on the lid. I chose to make a shaker element using one of the pieces in the Ephemera pack. I used the Star Spangled Sprinkletz for inside of my shaker. If you want to learn how to make a shaker element, I recommend watching the video above. Then, I selected two of the small tags from the Frames and Tags pack and added red, white, and blue ribbon. I fussy cut two floral images from the design paper for the top and bottom corners. Finally, I finished my box lid with red roses from Graphic 45.

Once the box is finished, it’s time to fill it up with goodies! I made this box to hold the patriotic Julie Nutting doll banner that I made in a previous post. However, it would also make a cute treat box or given with a gift to someone. Try it out today and don’t forget to head to the FotoBella website to pick up the “God Bless America” collection and other crafting supplies today.

Happy crafting!

Altered Storage Box for the Craft Room

Altered Storage Box
Storage Box with Graphic 45 Princess Papers

Hi crafty friends! Most crafters I know (myself included) have so much stuff in our craft rooms that it is sometimes hard to keep everything organized. Today, I am going to share with you a quick way to alter a storage box to beautifully store some of your craft supplies. The best part is that you probably already have the supplies in your craft room to make this project! If not, head over to the FotoBella online store and pick up some fun papers from their large collection.

If you’re anything like me, you hold on to empty boxes “just in case.” An altered storage box is the perfect way to recycle those boxes and get organized, too. To make this project, you can use any size box. I have a leftover chipboard box from Christmas that I will repurpose for my storage box. Next comes the fun part: selecting the papers. I am using the Princess collection from Graphic 45, which I purchased from FotoBella. Check out the FotoBella online store for other papers you might like. Don’t forget to pick up some coordinating paint, like this gold paint I used for my storage box.

Cutting the Papers

First, use the paint you chose to paint all of the edges of the box on the outside. Don’t forget the bottom. While waiting for the paint to dry, select the papers you want to use. I am choosing one pattern for the bottom of the box and a second pattern for the lid. One of the best parts of using any of the Graphic 45 collections is that the papers all coordinate so well.

For the papers on the bottom, measure the dimensions of your box and cut your papers 1/8” smaller to allow for a border. I wrapped my paper continuously around my box using long strips. However, you can also cut one piece for each of the four sides of the box and glue separately. Next, measure the dimensions of the lid and cut your papers 1/8” smaller. If you are using distress ink, make sure to ink the edges of all the cut papers. I am using Scattered Straw by Tim Holtz. I also want to use one of the beautiful princess images and postage stamps that come with the collection.

An optional step here is to cut papers for the inside of the storage box. I am choosing to leave my box plain inside since the box is in good shape. However, cutting a few pieces of cardstock to match your papers will give the box a more finished look.

Decorating the Storage Box

Once the paint is dry, begin with the storage box base. Adhere your papers to all four sides. If you are wrapping your paper like I did, start in the center of one side and try to make sure the end of the paper is not on the corner of the box. Line up the second piece and continue covering your storage box. Then, cut a piece of paper to cover the bottom of the box. I am using plain cream cardstock rather than the decorative paper for my bottom. Once cut, glue the paper onto the bottom of the box and set aside.

For the lid, begin by gluing the paper to the top. I am using one of the beautiful princess images and postage stamps from the collection. I cut out three postage stamps and backed them with chipboard to give them dimension. Also, I matted the larger image on cream cardstock. Next, position the image onto the box lid and glue into place. Add the smaller postage stamps on top of the main image. I cut a small border strip and added it to the top of my storage box lid to give it a bit of pink color.

Close Up of Postage Stamps and Flowers

Finally, choose some embellishments that compliment your project. I am using the Graphic 45 metal dies to create a flower out of coordinating paper. Also, I selected small pink flowers from my stash. FotoBella has a great selection of flowers to choose from! To finish off my storage box, I added Diamond Stickles to the flower petals and on the borders of the postage stamps.

What’s Inside My Storage Box

I am making my box specifically to hold all of my new Julie Nutting doll stamps. I purchased several of these stamps recently from the FotoBella online store and need a storage box for them. Since my craft room is pink, the Graphic 45 Princess collection was the perfect paper line for this project! I selected a box that is the perfect size for my stamps, too. However, the nicest part about altering a storage box is that the possibilities are endless! You can alter just about any box and use any papers. I hope you will give it a try soon. Mix and match, get creative with it, and have fun!

Nature Notebook ATC Box and Journal

Graphic 45 Nature Notebook
Nature Notebook ATC Matchbook Box

Hi crafty friends. I am so excited that Graphic 45 released Nature Notebook as a Deluxe Collector’s Edition. Graphic 45 first released the collection in 2017 as Nature Sketchbook. Being new to Graphic 45 at that time, I didn’t purchase the collection and am so glad to have the opportunity to buy the DCE now. If you missed out the first time around, head over to the FotoBella online store to purchase the collection today!

The papers in the Nature Notebook collection are gorgeous nature prints. They’re filled with both dark and light colors, and there’s a great balance to the collection. The DCE’s also come with two sticker sheets and the chipboard pieces. Having waited so long to get my hands on this collection, I want to make something special. I decided to decorate a Graphic 45 black ATC matchbook box and make a field notebook with handmade paper inside. Additionally, because Nature Notebook features butterflies throughout it, I am using my new Graphic 45 butterfly dies.

Nature Notebook ATC Matchbook Box

I really love the look of the ferns on the “Verdent Woodlands” paper in the collection and will use this paper as the front and sides to my Nature Notebook box. I will use the B-side to cover the insides of the box. For the top and bottom of my box, I am using “Wildflower Bouquet.” I cut the butterfly border strip from “Seasonal Splendor” to add along the bottom to give it some color. This strip is popped up on foam squares for dimension.

I am choosing the round blue sticker and backing it onto green cardstock. Also, I will use a small piece of chipboard with yellow in it to bring out the color of my field notebook. Using my Graphic 45 butterfly dies, I cut two layers of each butterfly to make them dimensional. I added Glossy Accents to the smaller butterfly and green gems to the larger butterfly. A small green flower adds the finishing touch and completes my Nature Notebook box.

The Field Notebook

I want my tiny notebook to stand out so I am choosing the soft yellow paper with the butterflies and flowers. I recently watched a YouTube video on how to make paper “suede” and am making my cover using this technique. Rather than using a brown paper bag, I am using my decorative paper from Nature Notebook. This process involves crinkling the paper-wadding it into a ball! Naturally, as a lover of all things Graphic 45, I was hesitant to take this step, but I finally did it. Then, distress inks add color and make the paper look worn. I am using Vintage Photo, Scattered Straw, and Evergreen Bough by Tim Holtz. Once finished, I added hair conditioner to the paper to turn it into “suede.”

I am shocked at how soft, yet textured the paper is. And it has a lovely coconut smell from the conditioner I used, too. I repeated the process with a second piece of Nature Notebook, though in a darker shade. Once both pieces are dry, I glued the layers together and stitched around the edges on my sewing machine. I will add an elastic closure with three charms to wrap around the notebook. Inside, I am hand stitching three signatures with paper I handmade from recycled junk mail. The edges of the pages are distressed with Scattered Straw and Evergreen Bough. On the front of each signature is a cut-apart image from Nature Notebook and a dried flower I picked last spring.

I hope my project has inspired you to purchase this Graphic 45 DCE to make something amazing for yourself or as a gift for someone special.

Bo Bunny Harmony Card Box and Cards

Hello everyone. Olivia here. Today I am showcase a box I decorated and also three set of cards I created using the Bo Bunny Collection called Harmony. This gorgeous collection is perfect for spring theme cards and projects. The set has a want it all package with 12x12 papers, bards, chipboard, stickers and die-cuts.

For the card box I used a plain Kraft box for holding cards. I then layered it with some of the 12x12 papers from the collection and added various chipboard pieces.

Next I created a trio of cards from the collection.  I love making starburst style cards because it is a great way to use up a variety of scraps.

Hope you all enjoyed this project. This is an adorable gift idea for that friend who loves to send out a card to his or her friends or family.

Graphic 45 Kaleidoscope Box

Hello! Drea here, and the fabulous Graphic 45 Kaleidoscope 12 X 12 I Want It All Bundle from FotoBella.com has all of my faves, from peacocks to elephants, along with my favorite colors (teals, greens, blues, and purples). The gorgeous Papers and Chipboard were perfect to create this square box, measuring 9"X 5"!

I couldn't decide between the purple or blue paper along the bottom, so I used both on each side with the Kaleidoscope Patterns & Solids.

All of the gold was done with Prima Marketing Metallique Wax (Vintage Gold) added to Black Gesso, including the Finnabair doily stencil on the lid. Originally I added the stencil to the purple paper, but decided to add another layer using the green for some more contrast.

The hinges were made from a cereal box using the Chipboard (red fabulous tag) as a stencil to create the shape, and the Prima Marketing (French Riveria Anchor and Shell) Stencil to make the rope design on the sides. The iridescent rhinestones reflect the beautiful colors, and have been in my stash for a long time now.

To the front side of the lid, I added the colorful Chipboard piece, embossed twice with Lindy's Gang (Clearly Clear) Embossing Powder, also used on the oval piece on top to make it look like glass.

Thanks for your visit and pick up the Graphic 45 (Kaleidoscope) 12 X 12 I Want It All Bundle at FotoBella.com!
