Mould Tutorial: How to Use Moulds in Mixed Media Projects

Mixed media moulds

Hi crafty friends. It’s Kristine and I’m back again today with another mixed media project for you. For this project, I will be showing you how I to make a mixed media wine bottle with moulds from the Amazonia collection. This project has a video tutorial and I think you will have a lot of fun crafting along! I know I had a lot of fun creating it and working with my new moulds.

For this project, you will need a wine bottle to decorate. I went to the grocery store with this specific project in mind. A while back, I remember seeing this cat-shaped wine bottle and it is perfect for my project using the Amazonia papers. It comes in black, white, and red - all of which match the collection! My bottle is black because I want the darker tones to come through in my final product.

Supplies Needed

To make the pieces, I will be using Stamperia soft clay. Also, I will use several of the Amazonia moulds including the texture mould and the leaves and butterflies mould. These moulds are easy to use and match the rest of the collection. In addition, I will be using a mould from Stamperia with butterfly and floral images. Also, I will use some of the small flowers from a Prima mould. Although not part of the Amazonia collection, these moulds definitely match well.

Various paints and mixed media products will add color to the project. However, I will be focusing on using Nuvo mousse (French Rose and Silver) as well as gold glamour gel in my project. Nuvo mousse comes in a wide variety of colors so feel free to choose the ones you like best. Also, I will use a heavy black gesso to cover my bottle and clay pieces. Finally, I will use a glossy gel medium to attach the pieces onto the bottle.

How to Use Mixed Media Moulds to Decorate a Wine Bottle

The tutorial contains two parts. First, I will show you how to use the moulds and mixed media supplies to cast pieces to decorate the wine bottle. We will be using one of the moulds and adding clay directly onto the bottle. Then, the second part of the video I will show you how to add color to the clay on your wine bottle. Here is where you can choose the colors you want to stand out on your bottle. This is where my project took on a life of it’s own! But I do love the way it turned out!

To cut down on the length of the video, I did not show how I painted the clay pieces from the moulds. However, the process is the same as painting the bottle. Each piece is individually attached with a strong adhesive. Then the entire piece has a layer of high gloss Mod Podge spray on it to seal it and bring out the metallic sparkle.

I hope you have found these two tutorial videos helpful. Most importantly, I hope it has inspired you to think about how you can use mixed media moulds in your next project. They are fast, fun, and a fabulous method for adding dimension and texture to any project. Many of the products from the tutorial are available for purchase in the FotoBella online store. So, don’t forget to head over to the FotoBella website for all of your mixed media and crafting supplies today!

Until next time, happy crafting!

Wiper Card: Monthly Graphic 45 Card Tutorial

Hi Crafty peeps! ReNae here with the FotoBella Design Team! I’m here with another card tutorial for our year-long Graphic 45 Card & Tag series. In today’s tutorial we will be making a fun-fold card called a Wiper Card!

wiper card

A wiper card is an interactive card from the Z-fold family. It’s essentially a pop-up card with a swinging tag that pops up with a swiping motion when both ends of the card are pulled. This card truly is as much fun to make as it is to receive! There are lots of wiper card tutorials on the internet, with several different variations of the pop-up mechanism. After many trials and errors, I found this one works the best!

The Paper Collection

For this tutorial we are once again using the beautiful papers from Graphic 45’s “Fashion Forward” paper collection. The March papers feature a vibrant color palette of sapphire blue, emerald green, and citrine yellow, and capture the flamboyant style of the 1920’s! The vibrant color, irresistible texture and imaginative designs of these papers are both fresh and familiar.

Let’s Make a Wiper Card

Here are the supplies you will need to create the wiper card.

Graphic 45 Fashion Forward 12x12 Paper Pack, (March papers) Die-cut Assortment, Chipboard, Ephemera & Journaling Cards, Stickers, Scor-Tape 1/4" Double-Sided Adhesive by Score Pal, Tape Runner, Extra Strong Wet Glue, 110 lb. Cardstock, (Black) Scoring Board, Paper Trimmer, Ruler, Bone Folder, Dimensional Tape, Crystals, Detailing Scissors, Graphic 45 Black Ink, Golden Rod Stickles and decorative dies. You can find almost everything you’ll need on our website at Fo1toBella.com.

Follow the pictorial tutorial below to see how to make your wiper card!

  1. For your wiper card, cut out two panels, one measuring 4 1/4” by 8 1/2” and the other 2 1/4” by 8 1/2”, the a small piece measuring 1” by 1 7/8”.
  2. Score both pieces at 1 1/2” and 3”

Assembling the Wiper Card

  1. Adhere the patterned paper pieces to the front side of the black card stock.
  2. Adhere patterned paper to small strip, then using Scot-Tape or wet glue, adhere strip to large panel directly below image of blue lady.
  3. Use bone folder to burnish patterned paper to black strip. Press firmly.
  4. Open the flap of your wiper card so that the bottom piece is flipped open and fold is on the left side. It is now time to work on the pop-up mechanism!

The Pop-up Mechanism

  1. Remove the March image of the lady with the big hat from the Ephemera pack, and fussy-cut image trimming hat to make it smaller. Cut out her hand separating her fingers.
  2. Cut a piece of acetate 1/2" x 3". Place a large glue dot on end of acetate strip.
  3. Ink edges of image with black ink, and adhere hand to front of blouse. You want it to look like she is blowing kisses!
  4. Fold small black cardstock to create a point and place along the small fold. (I have used patterned paper here for easier viewing) Then adhere acetate strip to mechanism so that it sticks out on the left side.
  5. Press the image of the lady down onto the acetate strip. You may have to adjust it later so don’t add another glue dot yet!
  6. Flip the fold back to the right and trim the acetate so it goes just to the back of her head. (see photo)
  7. Play with the mechanism on your wiper card to get the placement of your pop-up just right. Add a second glue dot to acetate behind the lady’s head.

Finishing Up

All that’s left to finish your wiper card is the bling! And if you want to add some vintage diecuts like I did, now’s the time! If you don’t have dies you can use the yellow trim from your patterned paper.

Wiper cards are fun and very versatile! I hope you enjoyed this fun fold card tutorial and will join me very soon for the March TAG tutorial! Happy Crafting!
