We are so grateful to have had such a great response to our design team call. Each of the applicants that we received were inspirational and unique.

In the end, we selected 5 team members, each who have great style and will inspire us all. We are excited to have a very mixed group of experienced, published paper artists and fresh new faces.

Without further ado, I am excited to introduce the new FotoBella Design Team!

Jeri Vann

I went to FIDM in Los Angeles and graduated in Product Development. I then went on to work in the apparel industry. I became a statistic of the economy downshift and was laid off. So to keep my sanity in my free time I became intrigued with paper, projects and blogs. Since then I have started make cards, gift tags, gift baskets as well as jewelry and my own custom wall decor. Doing all of these small projects help my mind to keep a creative edge. I love doing anything creative and unique, and I am constantly researching what is new and creative to get inspiration for a new creation of my own.

Hi my name is Kristie and I am so excited to be invited to design for FotoBella!

I am Married to a David,(the love of my life) and we have four awesome kidlets, and a furbaby named Lilly. My wonderful family is usually the subject of my scrappy projects, I have even been known to make them dress to match a page I want to do - lol! I have been scrapbooking and playing with paper for about twelve years, and I just love it! I don't think my style fits into any certain description, but I think I would call it "shabbydistressed bling"

I love to get my hands dirty and often use inks, and paints on my scrapbook pages. I love to distress my paper to add more dimension, and of course you always need a little bling! While scrapbooking is my favorite artistic hobby, I also dabble in photography, art journaling and mixed media. I am a Mixed Media Artist. I have been crafting since I was young love the feel and look of something handmade. When my daughter was born 15 years ago I made her a scrapbook using construction paper and added stickers it was a cheaper way since money was tight. I am a professional Full Time Glass Artist currently living in Salt Lake City. I do gallery openings to show my work as well I am commissioned nationally and internationally for my large scale works. I also teach Kiln forming glass classes.

I have been "scrap-booking" most of my life in the form of journaling and my sketch pad. I have to say that I enjoy Scraping and tend to have several styles that I work in. I really love making backgrounds in ink and watercolor then applying paint and ink drawings or doodles to the surface. Oh and I also love to make pop ups with paper, 3D flowers.

I love to create!. I teach in my home studio as well as at my local Michaels and scrapbook store, teaching a variety of layout and card classes incorporating die cutting, stamping, embossing, etc. My day is just not complete if I haven't spent some time creating. I often don't start with a plan of what I'm going to create. I let the products I want to use "tell" me what they want to do. I love to "play" with my supplies and I try to teach that to everyone. If you don't spend time playing, then you have no idea of the full capabilities of your products and the fun stuff you'll be able to create.

FotoBella is having a design team call! FotoBella is seeking 4-6 inspirational design team members from March 1, 2012 through September 1, 2012. We are seeking enthusiastic team members who love to scrapbook/make cards and love the products that we carry at FotoBella.com.

As a design team member, each month you will receive a kit to create with. You will then submit at least three projects (one 12x12 layout, one card, and one tag) with the materials from the kit by the 15^th of the month. We encourage you to make as many projects as you can with the great kit you receive! For at least one of your monthly projects you will provide step by step instructions and highlight the techniques used to create your project, including photos throughout the process. It is even better if you create videos of your project and techniques to accompany the instructions! You must be able to provide high quality, clear photos of your projects for use on our Blog/Website/Facebook/Newsletter. You must help promote FotoBella online and feature your projects and FotoBella kit on your facebook/blog. While on the design team you will receive a discount on all products at FotoBella.com and will be featured once a month in our newsletter.

The ideal candidate has a distinct style, can incorporate and teach basic to advanced techniques, is a great communicator, is highly motivated, is a self-starter, works well under pressure, meets deadlines, and LOVES to create and inspire.

Craftwell eBosser with custom plates for the Lifestyle Crafts L Letterpress

One of my favorite new gadgets at CHA in Anaheim a couple of weeks ago was the Craftwell eBosser. We expect it at Fotobella this summer. This new electronic die cutting machine uses all of your existing manual dies and embossing folders and cut/embosses at the touch of a button.

While we were at the show, I had someone tell me that they make hundreds of invitations and that this would be a perfect tool for them. It insired me to got Lifestyle Crafts and Craftwell together to test the L Letterpress (one of my current favorite gadgets) in the eBosser... and it was a success. The L Letterpress which inks and debosses. You can even create custom printing printing plates! So those invitations will be absolutely gorgeous. In am very excited to say that we have Silhouette Cameo's in stock! We have shipped all of our pre-orders and we were lucky enough to accelarate our subsequent orders so we have more to sell. I am personally exicited, because I have owned the original Silhouette, the Silhouette SD and the Cameo. And with each version it just gets better! The new Cameo is much quieter then the SD and I love that I can now cut my 12" paper.

Today I had a customer who was worried that the Silhouette Studio would no longer support directly importing GSD and DXF files. I tried it out and confirmed that Silhouette Studio does indeed import these files and they cut wonderfully!

Silhouette Series Part III - Using Sketch Pens

Welcome back to the Silhouette Series: Part III.

Today we are going to show you how to use sketch pens with your silhouette. Let's first start by making sure your Silhouette is hooked up to your computer.

Then, replace your blade in your Silhouette with one of the sketch pens. Remove the blade and the blade cap completely and chose what color sketch pen you want to start with and place that sketch pen where the blade was.

Choose what paper you want the sketch pens to draw on and load that paper on the cutting mat and into the Silhouette. Now going back to your computer, change the size of you paper if you have chosen to use anything less than 8.5" x 11"".

Pick the image you want to use and embed that image into your design. We are using the leaf for this demonstration. In order to see where the design will sketch on your paper, go to view and show grids. That way you can line up the design exactly where you want it, just be sure to keep the design within the given parameters.

Next, go to CUT settings, where the scissor symbol is at the top of the page. Make sure that cut is selected before you send to Silhouette. Now File, send to Silhouette.

The following settings should be as follows:

Change Settings : select sketch pens
(once selected, the paper and speed will automatically change to necessary setting)

Now cut page, and that will start the sketch on the paper. Remove the media from the Silhouette and you will have your finished product.

If you would like to add another color/design, you can reinsert your page into the Silhouette and follow the steps one more time with a different color or design.

Cutting Vinyl with Your Silhouette

Your Silhouette has a variety of different uses. Throughout the next couple weeks, we will be showcasing the Silhouette Series: all the different ways to use your Silhouette. Cutting Vinyl with Your Silhouette is easy and fun. Vinyl is the perfect way to add your designs or favorite quotes to the walls in your home, photo frames or projects.

Let's Get Started:
1. Be sure to change your blade cap to the blue cap. The Blue blade cap is designed for our thinner media such as vellum or vinyl.

2. I am going to have on hand one roll of black vinyl and one roll of transfer paper. The transfer paper is important to be able to transfer your design after being cut to the appropriate project. Premium Vinyl is a stronger adhesive, which you can still use for indoor use, but is also made for outdoor use.

3. Next, I am going to create my design on my computer in the Silhouette Studio Software. Today, I have chosen to use three stars from my library, in order to decorate the cover of my scrapbook.

4. Now it's time to cut the Vinyl. Since I am only going to cut out three stars, I will cut a small piece of vinyl to use. I will take my vinyl and place it on the cutting mat, in order to keep it flat and free from bubbles. Now place the mat into my Silhouette machine and load media. Then, go back to your computer and Send that file to Your Silhouette. Reminder: Change Your Settings as follows:
1. Media - Silhouette Vinyl
2. Speed - 1
3. Thickness - 4

5. Once your Silhouette is done cutting your design, remove your media from the machine. Now remove the access vinyl, so the only vinyl that remains on the vinyl backing is your design.

6. Take a piece of the transfer paper and cover your design. Use your scraping tool to smooth the transfer paper to the vinyl. This will help keep your design in place so you can arrange to your project. Take your transfer paper, with the design and place on a smooth, clean surface. Use your scraper tool to scrape the design from the transfer paper. Slowly Remove the transfer paper, making sure all of the vinyl is firmly stuck t your project.

I am going to focus on the Die Cutting Tool. You only need 5 things to get started. The machine itself, the platform, the cutting mat, your die cut of choice and paper of choice.

To Begin, Place the die cut on top of your Magnetic Platform (design side up).
Then take your colored paper and place on top of the die cut. Place your cutting mat on top of the die(s). You can cut up to three dies at one time.


Next, Place the Magnetic Platform into your Die Cutting tool and turn the handle until the entire Platform has gone through the machine. Remove your paper and you will now have a paper embellishment to add to your page.

I chose to use the Happy Birthday Die Cut and the Ballerina Die Cuts to create a Birthday Page for a 1 year old girl.

We love Basic Grey! And this year we signed up for the page of the month program. We just received our first shipment.

Sparkle makes me smile

FotoBella was created with a vision of both elegant books of family history and whimsical scrapbooks of the fun times we had as a family. I spent a lot of time finding tools and supplies to create my vision. I have pulled together these resources here on FotoBella for those of you who are building your own books of beautiful photos. Glitter paper is one of my favorite whimsical media... Sparkle makes me smile. And Best Creations has some of the best sparkle I have seen. Unfortunately the web takes away some of the drama... you only get the full effect in person...

I was so excited to see this year that they have created new kits where you get one sheet of each of their 9 gorgeous papers for a theme, 2 die cut sheets, the coordinating element and combo stickers and chipboard die cuts. They also have new 6x6 Glitter paper pads for each kit, which is great for card making!

There are 5 new paper pads & kits available. Here are some project samples from Safari Boy and Safari Girl.

I just love Graphic 45 paper

At CHA one of my very favorite booths to visit is the Graphic 45 booth.

They have the most creative displays and I just love the classy, retro look of all of their paper lines. We are so excited to have their newest paper to play with! Although, I have to admit, I walk away from that booth a little intimidated, I still am excited to use this paper.

I am also very excited about the new coordinating cling stamps. Each new paper collection has three sets of coordinating cling stamps. This means when I run out of paper, I still can play with these gorgous designs!

CHA was great this week. One of our favorite new things is the Fabric Interfacing for the Silhouette! You now can cut fabric with your Silhouette SD or original Silhouette machine! FotoBella just got our order and have it in stock ready to ship!

There are two types of fabric interfacting available.

Clean Cut Fabric Interfacing

Silhouette clean cut interfacing has a stronger adhesive for a cleaner cut and less fraying over time. Use clean cut interfacing for projects that don't need to be washed or that can be hand-stitched. Contains 17" x 36" of interfacing.

Sewable Fabric Interfacing

Silhouette sewable interfacing has a thinner adhesive allowing you to temporarily iron your cutout designs to your project while you sew or stitch them. Contains 17" x 36" of interfacing.
